INNATURA,

a solo exhibition by Valerio Figuccio, displays a selection of 9 photographs from a series of 24 and a video, created during a stay in Australia and Asia.

The work highlights a subtle coexistence where natural elements, both plant and animal, merge with an artificial presence that undermines the clear recognition of the subject, allowing an ambiguous visual picture to emerge. The presence of artificial elements manifests itself by showing the subjects as a solitary presence, an archaeological find, or an ancient sage who has survived. The images are thus characterized by a suspended dimension, permeated by a slight vein of unease.

“It’s so beautiful it looks fake”

a frequently used expression intended to show appreciation and praise, but which makes a premise: the artificial, the fake is given a higher aesthetic quality. Saying it’s so beautiful it looks fake, seems to suggest that beauty is not tied to the natural evolution of a form, but to a designed creation, an aesthetic idea developed according to plan. A phrase that emphasizes an uncomfortable kinship, a overtaking of those who initially lay at the bottom.
